چکیده
In January 2020, an extreme precipitation event occurred over southeast Brazil, with the epicentre in Minas Gerais state. Although rainfall frequently occurs this region during wet season, led to death of 56 people, drove thousands residents into homelessness, and incurred millions Brazilian Reais (BRL) financial loss through cascading effects flooding landslides. The main question that arises is: To what extent can we blame climate change? With mind, our aim was assess socioeconomic impacts whether how much it be attributed human-induced change. Our findings suggest change made >70% more likely occur. We estimate >90,000 people became temporarily homeless, at least BRL 1.3 billion (USD 240 million) lost public private sectors, which 41% This assessment brings new insights about necessity urgency taking action on change, because is already effectively impacting society Brazil region. Despite its dreadful society, magnitude assessed quite common (return period ∼4 years). calls for immediate improvements strategic planning focused mitigation adaptation. Public management policies must evolve from disaster response modus operandi order prevent future disasters.

متن کاملImpacts of climate change on extreme precipitation events in arid (Bandar Abbas) and semi-arid (Shahrekord) stations in Iran
The aim of this paper is to project extreme precipitation events in an arid and a semiarid station. In order to project climate change based on general circulation models (GCMs), we have applied LARS-WG[1] downscaling tool. This stochastic weather generator down-scaled the climate of two synoptic stations using HADCM3 model and A2 emission scenario for 2040. We extracted extreme precipitation e...
